According to sheriff's records, Leland admitted to fleeing from the deputy 'due to being scared.'
As the two were going under the Parrish Lane overpass, the deputy activated his vehicle's lights and siren and initiated a traffic stop.
"At this time, the rider looked over his shoulder at me, then looked forward and accelerated to a high rate of speed," documents stated. "It was obvious that the rider was actively fleeing." The responding deputy then called for backup via dispatch and was informed that a trooper who was also patrolling I-15 had witnessed the motorcyclist en route southbound at 140 miles per hour.
Moments later, a group of Utah Highway Patrol troopers located the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Spencer Reid Leland, in the area of 253 East 3300 South in South Salt Lake and detained him.JOIN THE CONVERSATION Leland was booked into the Davis County Jail on one third degree felony count of failure to stop at the command of law enforcement and a speeding infraction.
