Police believe the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old boy in a small northern NSW town overnight was a targeted attack.

Emergency services were called to a property on McDougall Street just after 1am Saturday.Police say the victim has not been formally identified.Richmond Police District Commander, Superintendent Scott Tanner, will hold a press conference at 3pm in Lismore with further details.

The incident comes after the death of another 17-year-old in a stabbing incident in Casino last month.
