The U.S. Army is investigating the specific cause of the National Guard soldier's death in South Carolina.
Pennsylvania National GuardOfficials at South Carolina’s Fort Jackson said that PFC Alyssa Cahoon died on Aug. 25 after collapsing during physical training on Aug. 20,"We extend our deepest sympathies to the family members and teammates of the deceased soldier. We are providing every comfort and assistance that we can to all involved," U.S. Army Training Center and Fort Jackson Commander Brig. Gen. Patrick R. Michaelis, said in a statement.
"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of PFC Alyssa Cahoon," the 1st Battalion 34th Infantry Regiment posted on its Facebook page. "She passed away last night, 25 August 2022, with her family by her bedside.", Alyssa and her twin sister Brianna were both trainees at Fort Jackson, and a photo was posted of the two of them standing side by side in their camouflage uniforms, holding their rifles.
Shalish Grant, 21, of Jersey City, New Jersey is helped through an obstacle course during Army basic training at Fort Jackson. "They are both 42A Human Resource Specialists," the post said "How cool is it that they get to go through Basic Combat Training together?! They qualified on their rifles with Back-up Iron Sights today!"
