The New Zealand motorsport community is mourning the death of a teenage racer and his co-driver who were killed during the Arcadia Road Rallysprint. The two competitors crashed into a swollen river and were found dead at the scene. Tributes are pouring in for the victims.
The New Zealand motorsport community is in mourning after a teenage racer and his co-driver were killed during the Arcadia Road Rally sprint on Sunday. Brooklyn Horan, 15, and Tyson Jemmett, 35, left the gravel road and crashed into a swollen river at around 2pm local time. Both were found dead when emergency services arrived at the scene in Paparoa, two hours north of Auckland.
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of these two competitors and all involved with the Arcadia Road Rallysprint,” Motorsport New Zealand president Wayne Christie said. “The whole motorsport community will be understandably shocked and upset by this terrible tragedy. We will be offering support to all those involved in the coming days.” Tributes flowed on Monday for Horan and Jemmett, who is survived by his wife Lucy.
