A 15-year-old boy has been arrested following a machete attack and attempted robbery in Melbourne. The victim, a 39-year-old man, suffered a serious head wound during the incident on Sunday night.
Police have arrested a 15-year-old boy over an alleged machete attack and attempted robbery in Melbourne overnight. Police said the victim, a 39-year-old St Albans man, was walking along Barkly Street in St Kilda on Sunday night when he was approached by a male and female near Carlisle Street. The pair demanded the victim hand over his car keys and tried to grab his mobile phone before the male struck the victim across his head with a machete, Victoria Police said.
'There's a substantial slash wound to the back of his head which the hospital described as a 'penetrating trauma',' Senior Sergeant Christy Walsh said. Senior Sergeant Walsh said there were many witnesses, some of whom performed first aid on the victim until paramedics arrived. 'This is a very concerning incident, not only that this male would be carrying the machete but that he would brazenly assault someone in the street with it,' he said.'He doesn't know them, complete stranger,' he said. Shortly after 12:30pm Monday, police arrested a 15-year-old boy at Southern Cross Railway Station.
