A 16-year-old has been charged with assaulting a police officer after an alleged attack outside Optus Stadium in Perth, Western Australia.

Western Australia Police have charged a 16-year-old after he allegedly attacked an officer outside Optus Stadium in Perth. In a statement, police said an officer conducting a routine patrol outside the venue had approached the teenager at about 2:25pm on Saturday.After a short conversation, authorities allege the teen then attacked the officer, punching and kicking him several times.

Meanwhile, a group of as many as 30 other juveniles, who were in the area at the time, allegedly surrounded the officer while he was assaulted. The 16-year-old then attempted to flee the scene on his e-bike, but was chased down and arrested a short time later.Following his arrest, police charged the teen with one count of assaulting a public officer.In addition to the alleged assault, police also said they had earlier received'numerous reports' of a large group of young people'creating a disturbance and riding bicycles, scooters and e-motorcycles' around Perth, Northbridge and Burswood. Authorities are continuing to make inquiries into the reports and any further incidents which may be connected
