A 17-year-old Chinese boy was sentenced to six years and seven months in prison for attempting to import 5.42 kilograms of methamphetamine into Australia from Hong Kong . The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will be eligible for parole in 2027. Australian Federal Police (AFP) officers arrested the teenager at his East Perth apartment on June 25, where they found 850 grams of methamphetamine in his fridge, along with drug distribution paraphernalia.
The investigation began when Australian Border Force officers intercepted six kilograms of cocaine from Hong Kong, alerting the Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department (HKCE). HKCE intercepted four stone statue pedestals containing 5.42 kilograms of methamphetamine, destined for the boy's address. AFP Detective Acting Inspector Tom Blakeley said the seizure prevented a potential 62,500 street deals from reaching the Western Australia community. 'Across Australia, 27 people on average were admitted to hospital every day in 2021-22 for methamphetamine-related issues,' he added
