Teenager Killed in Shark Attack at City Beach
Shark Attack, City Beach, Stella Berry

Stella Berry, a 16-year-old swimmer from Perth, was killed by a shark while swimming at City Beach on Friday. The attack happened quickly, and despite the efforts of her peers and emergency services, she succumbed to her injuries. The beach is closed for an investigation, and the community is reeling from the loss.

Onshore winds and waves had pushed it onto the sand. Two great whites measuring five metres and four metres were spotted just 10 metres from the sand, according to SharkSmart.

“It is possible the carcass will continue to act as an attractant that could lead to sharks coming in close to shore along this stretch of coast,” a shark warning read. Cambridge Mayor Gary Mack said the town is working on a plan to remove the whale, with rangers to determine if it can be towed out to sea or put on a truck and sent to landfill.

“We’ll need to investigate the status of that carcass and develop a series of options of how to dispose of it,” Mack said. He said the city hopes to have “some answers by “.

“What the town is really emphasising — people should not swim in that area at all or even take their dogs out,” he said. “Once we develop that plan we’ll be implementing it as soon as we can so this beach can be re-opened. ”“I must admit my mind first went to that and sharks,” one onlooker at City Beach said on Monday.

O’Neill, a father and grandfather-to-be, had been swimming about 15m from the shore when he was taken by a great white.
