A 19-year-old fisherman from the Northern Territory, Australia, won a life-changing $1 million prize after reeling in a tagged barramundi during the annual Million Dollar Fish competition.

A teenager, Keegan Payne, won a million dollars after catching a tagged barramundi in the Northern Territory ’s Million Dollar Fish competition. Payne, 19, hooked the 67cm barra on the Katherine River with friends and family in April. The win will significantly change Payne’s life, allowing him to help his family of eight who have been struggling financially. He plans to use the money for a trip to the United States, a new boat and car, and to assist his parents with their home loans.

The Million Dollar Fish competition, which is run in partnership with the NT Government, releases hundreds of tagged barramundi worth either $1,000,000 or $10,000 into various Northern Territory waterways to attract tourism. Season nine ended in April with nine fishing enthusiasts catching $10,000 worth of prize money each. Season 10 began in October and saw fisherman George Voukolus catch his third $10,000 fish, bringing his total winnings to $30,000
