The 17-year-olds, part of a county lines drugs gang, were arrested by armed officers after holding a man captive overnight.

Two teenagers armed with a machete and a firearm held a man hostage in his own house as part of a drugs operation. The 17-year-olds travelled from Birmingham to Swansea with the weapons and a stash of heroin and cocaine on July 26.

Hannah George, prosecuting, told the court that the man was able to make a "whispered" call to police the following morning, with the force swooping on the scene. But when they arrived, the teens - part of the 'Trev Line' county lines operation funnelling drugs from the West Midlands to Wales - had gone.

One of the mobiles seized by officers was "continually ringing", the court heard, and analysis showed it had sent out bulk text messages about having the "best of both" - heroin and cocaine - that morning. The same phone had been used to order the taxi from their captive's house to the scene of their arrest.

She told the court that he got involved with the county lines operation through peer pressure after being excluded from school. Ms Capanini said he wants support to "disassociate himself from the lifestyle" so he can train to be a plumber.
