Importantly, it must be acknowledged that bodily pain is heterogeneous, and there might be some pain-related conditions that benefit from sedentary behaviour while others are aggravated by excessive sedentary behaviours. Secondly, the exposure variable was self-reported and represented a particular subset of leisure-time sedentary behaviour. Time spent on the internet and social media are examples of other components of overall leisure-time sedentary behaviour, that were not captured.

Thirdly, data on some potential time-variant confounders such as a history of cancer and bone fracture were available at only one-time point and assumptions were made to either treat those variables as time-invariant variables if it was measured at only baseline or exclude those participants in the analysis to account for potential reverse causation bias. Finally, there could well be other unmeasured confounders, therefore, not accounted for in the analysis.
