Daily News | Temple police officer shot and killed pursuing a robbery suspect, officials say
A Temple University police officer was shot and killed Saturday night near 17th Street and Montgomery Avenue near the campus border while pursuing the suspect in a robbery at a nearby convenience store, university officials said.
“It just shakes everybody to the core,” said Ken Kaiser, the school’s senior vice president and chief operating officer. He said that in his more than 30 years at the school, this was the first incident of a fatal shooting of a campus police officer.In a statement, the university said the suspected robbery occurred at a convenience store at 15th Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue. The shooting first was reported around 7:15 p.m.
The last fatal shooting of an officer in the Temple University area was in 2008, about five blocks from where Saturday’s shooting occurred. Philadelphia Police Officer Patrick McDonald, an eight-year veteran assigned to the Highway Patrol Unit,
