Man United have taken a liking to signing Eredivisie players under Erik ten Hag, but they missed out on one who could have had the biggest impact.
After starting the last three games on the bench, you would struggle to find a Manchester United supporter who would nominate Antony for a start at Wembley on Saturday.
Signed from Ajax in September 2022 after being handpicked by Erik ten Hag, he was drafted in to strengthen United's right flank. He was expected to provide goals, creativity and a sprinkling of Brazilian brilliance. He scored just one league goal in 29 appearances, which is a damning statistic for a winger who was signed for £85.5million to increase the quality of United's forward line.
Among the players with Eredivisie history that Ten Hag did have interest in adding to United's ranks was West Ham United attacker Mohammed Kudus, who was previously on the books of Ajax. Kudus joined the Hammers last August for £38million. Having achieved such a tally, Kudus will be an attractive target for a whole host of clubs in this summer's transfer window. He has demonstrated that he can deliver the goods in this league.
