Police have issued a major update in the search for teenager Jay Slater after changing their search plan in Tenerife.
Police in Tenerife have announced a major update after changing their search plans to trace missing Jay Slater.
Lucy also called on British police to get involved, despite it emerging late last week Lancashire Police’s offer of help on the ground had been rejected by the Civil Guard on the Canary Island. The force has yet to make any official comment about the Lancashire Police claims and insisted today it had no intention of doing so at this stage.
Another insider added: “If Lancashire Police have decided to make public their offer of support to the Civil Guard that’s a decision for them. But it doesn’t follow that the Civil Guard in Tenerife will be making any public statements of their own in response and it’s unlikely they will. We have a different way of doing things and that's not to say it's better or worse, just different.
A Civil Guard spokeswoman said this morning the search for Jay, from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, was continuing in the area near Masca in the Teno Rural Park his phone last ‘pinged’ from as well as on forest paths towards Buenavista del Norte further north. Although an off-road path through the Masca Gorge ends up on a beach, the police search so far has been a land and air search. A Civil Guard helicopter has flown over the sea but experts are not thought to have studied local currents so far and seriously looked at the possibility of a search with divers in targeted areas.
