Tennis power couple Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter have spilled the beans on how they kept their budding relationship a secret in the early days. The Aussie and Brit have been together since 2020, but melted hearts around the world when they teamed up for the mixed doubles event at Wimbledon last year.
They won plenty of fans with their love for each other on the tennis court despite only winning one match. Reflecting on the early stages of their relationship, the loved-up pair revealed how they used to hide it from fellow players and the public in a video for the ATP Tour website. Boulter: “Remember that time when we were having breakfast on like separate tables?” De Minaur: “That was the early stages. We would rock down to breakfast at different times.” Boulter: “Different times, like 10 minutes later.” De Minaur: “To avoid speculation.” Boutler: “It’s so true, so people wouldn’t find out.” De Minaur, with a laugh: “It works every time.” Fans loved seeing the video of the couple. “Lovely couple, wish them all the luck in their relationship and tennis careers,” one said. “How cute. Love them both,” another added. “Enjoyed this. Well shot, candid and real,” another said. Since captivating the tennis world at last year’s Wimbledon, their individual careers continue to flourish. De Minaur broke into the top 10 for the first time earlier this year, while Boutler hit a career-high No.27 in March. The pair, who are both in Madrid this week, reminisced how this time last year, Boulter was playing challenger tournaments in Japan. “Do you think it’s crazy how like this time last year, I was playing in Japan and ranked like 150,” Boutler said. “I remember you telling me, ‘I will not be playing a clay court swing in my life, I refuse to play on clay,’ and here you are,” de Minaur said. “A whole year later, top 30, it fills me with a lot of joy, being able to tell you, ‘I told you so’.” Boutler replied: “You’re just rubbing off on me.” De Minaur: “I think we’re helping each other.” Boulter: “You’re right, I take full credit for you making top 10.” De Minaur: “Only reason I made it.” Engagement rumours have continued to surround the pair with Boulter spotted wearing a ring while sitting courtside for de Minaur’s match at the Australian Open. And last month, Boutler was all too aware of that when celebrating their anniversary, making note that she was wearing jewellery on her left ringer in the photo. “Four years with you,” Boulter wrote. “Calm down not engaged . Just the only finger that ring fits.”
