Gauff, 15, became the youngest player to reach a WTA semi-final since Czech Republic’s Nicole Vaidisova won the Tashkent Open in 2004, also aged 15. Gauff had no time to think about her achievement, though, concentrating instead on the schoolwork that awaited her back in her hotel room. “I’m thinking of the homework I have to do tonight. I don’t know what it is yet. I’m studying the typical stuff — Math, English, History... I don’t know what I have to do but I know it’s something.”
