Tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians are being allowed to return to northern Gaza after an agreement between Israel and Hamas. The return, facilitated by the UN and OCHA, follows a ceasefire and hostage release deal. While the situation is hopeful, the future remains uncertain.

Tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians have converged on the border crossing as the Israel Defense Forces ( IDF ) permits people to return on foot to northern Gaza . Israel i Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Sunday that Israel would allow displaced Palestinians to return to northern Gaza starting Monday morning.

'After conducting firm and determined negotiations led by Prime Minister Netanyahu, Hamas has backed down and will carry out another round of hostage releases this Thursday,' the office of the Israeli prime Minister said in a statement. 'At the same time, Israel received a list from Hamas containing the status of all the hostages who are to be released in phase one. As part of these agreements, Israel will allow Gazans to cross into the northern Gaza Strip starting tomorrow morning.' Hamas also confirmed it had handed over to the mediators the required information regarding the list of Israeli hostages who will be released during the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. Middle East politics analyst Martin Kear told News Channel 'it is an uncertain future' for displaced Palestinians. The passage of displaced Palestinians has begun along the Al-Rashid Road via the western part of the Netzarim checkpoint towards Gaza City and the northern part of the Gaza Strip, the official said. Israel has warned these people to not bring weapons to the checkpoint. 'The transfer of militants or weapons via these routes to the northern Gaza Strip will be considered a breach of the agreement,' Israel has said. 'Do not cooperate with any terrorist entity that may try to exploit you to transfer weapons or prohibited materials.' When the news was shared to them that they could return today, cheers were heard at shelters and tent encampments. People on the ground hope the process will remain calm. 'No sleep. I have everything packed and ready to go with the first light of day,' said Ghada, a mother of five. 'At least we are going back home. Now I can say war is over and I hope it will stay calm,' she told Reuters. According to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), it has helped to provide food, emergency medical care, and other services to the people on the ground. The UN has also been actively involved in facilitating the return of displaced Palestinians, and its agencies are providing critical support to those affected by the conflict.
