Tens of thousands of popular cars are being recalled in Australia over fears a software issue could lead to overheating, resulting in a vehicle fire.The safety recall is for the Sportage mid-size SUV and Sorento seven-seat SUV, two of Kia’s most popular models.It applies to Sportage models built between 2015 and 2021 and Sorentos built between 2014 and 2020.

“Due to a software issue, the Heater Core Element may operate at a higher than intended temperature, causing damage to the connector,” the recall listed on the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications website said./The recall also stated owners should contact their local Kia dealership to schedule an appointment to have the HVAC control unit software updated.

“The Heater Core Element and connector should also be inspected and replaced if damaged,” the statement said. More information is available on the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications
