A teenager has allegedly pulled out a knife in front of horrified shoppers inside a Central Coast shopping centre, just hours before the New South Wales government announced reforms to target knife crime following a series of deadly incidents in recent weeks.
The NSW government has announced a package of"common sense" reforms in a bid to remove knifes from the community following a series of shocking and fatal incidents in recent weeks.
Luckily, no one was injured. However, it's the latest in a series of alarming and incidents involving knives across the state and in the country. The designated areas will include public transport, shopping centres, clubs and places where large crowds gather, including at major events. Jack's Law in Queensland has so far seen some 800 weapons confiscated, with about 1,400 people charged with 2,500 offences in the first three years.
Police Minister Yasmin Catley said the legislation, which is yet to be finalised before it's introduced into parliament, sends a strong message to would-be perpetrators.
