A six-year-old London girl finds a message in a Christmas card, purporting to be from a foreigner imprisoned in Shanghai who is being forced to work against their will.
British supermarket giant Tesco has suspended a Chinese supplier of charity Christmas cards after a customer reportedly found a message written inside a card saying it had been packed by foreign prisoners who were victims of forced labour.
for illegally obtaining private records of Chinese citizens and selling the information to clients, including drugmaker GlaxoSmithKline.Tesco, Britain's biggest retailer, donates 300,000 pounds a year from the sale of charity Christmas cards to the British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK and Diabetes UK.
"We were shocked by these allegations and immediately suspended the factory where these cards are produced and launched an investigation. We have also withdrawn these cards from sale whilst we investigate."
