A former great who dominated the spinning conditions in India has offered to help the struggling Australian batsmen while selectors face a tough call as David Warner's injury could force him to hang up the baggy green.
The Australian selectors are also faced with a headache as they contemplate what to do with the injured David Warner who may find his injuries have decided his future in the baggy green.
Matthew Hayden is in India to commentate but has offered to help the Australian batsmen with his expertise of the spinning conditions. Picture: Robert Cianflone/Getty Images The legendary opening batsman dominated the 2001 tour of India averaging 110 across three matches and he was also part of the 2004 side which is the only Australian team to win a series in India since 1969.
Australia is also suffering from a team that is breaking down with Warner sent home after suffering a fractured elbow and a concussion in Delhi that rendered him unfit for the remainder of the series. The 36-year-old’s lacklustre overseas record and the team’s upcoming fixtures mean his spot in the side is now being questioned.
Warner’s form has also waned in recent years, averaging 30 last year, but a massive double century at the Boxing Day Test would have boosted his average.
