The Texans have completed their interview with Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka for their head-coaching vacancy, a person with knowledge of the situation said Sunday.
Kafka, 35, finished his first season as a full-time play-caller in the NFL. The Giants improved from one of the league’s least efficient units to one of its most elite rushing attacks under Kafka, who joined first-year coach Brian Daboll’s staff after spending five seasons with the Chiefs working for coach Andy Reid.
The Giants improved from the NFL’s 31st-rated total offense to the league’s 16th-rated offense under Kafka with a rushing attack that logged the league’s fourth-most yards per game . Two-time Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley saw a resurgence under Kafka, rushing for 1,312 yards and 10 touchdowns. Former No. 6 overall pick Daniel Jones also improved his quarterback rating from 84.8 in 2021 to a career-high 92.5 in 2022 while rushing for a career-high 708 yards and seven touchdowns.
