The Aggies also bring with them not one, not two, but now three reliable running backs who will look to continue their recent success against a Razorback defense that only allowed 2.83 yards per rushing attempt this season.Junior Amari Daniels, sophomore Le’Veon Moss, and freshman Rueben Owens have a combined 506 rushing yards on 95 carries and five touchdowns. Each has at least one touchdown, 100 rushing yards and an average of 5.33 yards per carry.
The Aggies will have a full receiving corps for Johnson to work with heading into the Southwest Classic, as well. According to Fisher in Monday’s press conference, sophomore Noah Thomas should be good to play against a Razorback defense that is second in the SEC in interceptions with six and has 11 pass deflections so far this season.A&M’s defense passed its first true test in Week 4 against an Auburn offense with a run personality.
However, in last year’s contest, Sanders wasn’t the one who gave A&M problems. Senior quarterback KJ Jefferson, who is third on the team in rushing yards , accumulated 171 yards and two touchdowns in the air and 105 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground in last year’s game. The Aggies’ luckily made it through with a win, thanks to a missed field goal from junior kicker Cam Little, but they had no answer for the 6-3, 247-pound dual-threat.The Razorback defense will make it a priority to limit the Aggie run game and force them to win in the air, like they have been doing all season. If A&M wants to win this game, it must develop a run game early and rotate through the three-headed monster they’ve created in the backfield.
On the defensive end, everyone from the A&M sidelines up to the press box knows they must stop the run. However, their first job is to just stop No. 1. If they limit Jefferson’s production on the ground and force him to defeat the Aggies’ through the air, A&M may run away with it.
