As one of just two top-60 freshmen left unsigned in June, Johnson heard from a number of high-major suitors eager to add young developmental talent this late in the game. In the end, Texas outmaneuvered Arkansas, Washington and the rest to sign the 6-foot-4 combo guard. Johnson previously played at Elkins before transferring to powerhouse Montverde Academy for his senior year. Johnson averaged 19.5 points, seven rebounds and five assists and was an All-Greater Houston selection as a junior.
