A Frisco doctor linked to a medical spa where a woman died following an IV therapy treatment this summer has temporarily lost his license.suspended Dr. Michael Patrick Gallagher on Friday, saying he poses a “continuing threat to public welfare.” The suspension will remain in effect until the board takes further action.Gallagher, an anesthesiologist, served as medical director for Luxe Med Spa in Wortham, roughly 70 miles south of Dallas.
According to the board’s suspension order, Luxe did not have any protocols, policies or procedures for the administration of IV therapy, except to “vaguely inform Luxe’s patients of the IV therapy process.”Spa staff were performing treatments that required medical licensure, yet no medically licensed or experienced personnel were present, putting patients at risk, the board said.
Gallagher’s actions, including a lack of supervision and oversight, present a “continuing threat to the public health, safety and welfare of Texas citizens,” the board wrote.IV therapy lounges and drip bars are rapidly growing in popularity, with spas promising infusions can boost hydration, energy, immunity and fight signs of aging. Some are tailored to help patients recover from hangovers, illnesses or jet lag.
