The man's lawyer, Chris Tritico, said they were still gathering evidence but that he was 'a bit concerned about someone being arrested and ejected from a public place attempting to speak at a public meeting.'
Jeremy Eugene, 30, was registered to speak at Thursday's meeting but was shut out of the auditorium, where the capacity had been limited to 35 people, along with dozens of other speakers and members of the public. Witnesses say he was removed from the building with two other Black men after they refused to be redirected to an overflow room, where most speakers delivered comments over webcam.
Eugene's lawyer, Chris Tritico, said they were still gathering evidence but that he was"a bit concerned about someone being arrested and ejected from a public place attempting to speak at a public meeting." "Jeremy is a teacher and a respected member of Community Voices for Public Education. We are all adamantly opposed to the state takeover and believe parents, teachers, students and taxpayers like Jeremy should be heard in a democracy," said the group's co-founder, Ruth Kravetz.
"That will be a major change. It will shift the magnet programs drastically, and its something he should talk to the community about, or the communities at each school, before he decides he's going to do this," Eugene said."The board should also pay attention to that before they approve his decision to temporarily halt the board policy."
