The Longhorns aim to snap four-game losing streak in 118th edition of Red River rivalry.

AUSTIN — On Oct. 17, 2009, Colt McCoy-led Texas eked out a 16-13 win over Sam Bradford-led Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl. The win represented the Longhorns’ fourth in five chances against the Sooners, and they kept on winning right up until McCoy got knocked out early in the 2010 BCS title game against Alabama.

Second-year Texas coach Steve Sarkisian wasn’t around for most of those defeats. But he did preside over last year’s catastrophe up in Dallas, a 55-48 loss that sparked a six-game losing skid as the Longhorns tumbled toward their fourth losing season since 2014. “Last time I checked this morning when I walked in our building, the Golden Hat wasn’t in there,” Sarkisian said Monday. “So we got plenty to get ourselves prepared for.”

That would leave Venables to decide between redshirt junior Davis Beville, junior college transfer General Booty and true freshman Nick Evers. Beville, a Pittsburgh transfer, replaced the injured Gabriel and completed 7 of 16 passes for 50 yards in that 55-24 loss to TCU.
