Text messages between Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes and company president Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani offer a rare look at their once-secret romance—and could undercut her possible defense alleging an abusive relationship that left her under his control
Ahead of Ms. Holmes’s trial on fraud and conspiracy charges, federal prosecutors on Tuesday filedThe filing includes texts Ms. Holmes sent Mr. Balwani in May of that year saying, "Madly in love with you and your strength," "You are breeze in desert for me" and "Feel like luckiest person in world BC I have you."alleging the pair were in an abusive relationship
that left her under Mr. Balwani's control during the time of the alleged fraud conspiracy. Mr. Balwani's attorney has denied any allegations of abuse. Over the same period of days, the two discuss who they think spoke to The Wall Street Journal, which hadn't yet published its first story on Theranos, and how they could retaliate.
The two also seemed to share a pet. At one point Ms. Holmes asks how their "baby bird" is doing and whether a friend could feed it.
