Opinion: From 'winter dips' on Bondi Beach to clinking wine in the Barossa Valley, this Melburnian is calling for a little empathy from those in the land of the free | CE_Zielinski
Last Tuesday morning, the moment I checked the news I just knew the day was going to end badly for Melbourne.
And so it continues. Only six days into the city-wide lockdown, the wound is still fresh, but seems to have been totally forgotten by everyone outside Victoria.Credit:Family and friend group chats are filled with images from the Barossa Valley, urban and rural seaside towns, happy people emerging from Bondi Beach in their wetsuits, hugging their delighted children while attempting to tame wind-blown hair.
Despite the rising number of cases in Melbourne, I don’t know anyone who has gleefully partied, stopped washing their hands or gone out on all-night benders, touching everyone and everything in sight. In fact, it’s been quite the opposite: many friends have been so cautious they have limited their interactions with most people, even in the brief period we were still free.
