NRL: The Panthers grinded their way to a 16-10 victory over the Bulldogs on Friday however face another extended period without Nathan Cleary.
Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson refused to divulge on his pitch to David Fifita but declared the barnstorming forward’s best footy is “definitely ahead of him”.
Although it has not been made official, Fifita will link up with the Roosters from 2025 on a four-year deal worth approximately $3.3 million,It brings an end to a turbulent spell with the Titans in which Fifita has shown several glimpses of his immense potential but not as regularly as Gold Coast fans would have hoped. The Roosters pipped defending champions Penrith to Fifita’s signature, despite a personal phone call from the Panthers’ superstar halfback Nathan Cleary.
However, when quizzed on what he pitched to Fifita that swung him in favour of a move to the Roosters over the Panthers, Robinson played a straight bat.“I feel like the result obviously comes out, but the conversations that I have with somebody when it comes to recruitment, I do feel like that’s private.Robinson did acknowledge it would have been “a really tough decision” for Fifita to make and felt it was a strong endorsement of the club that the Queensland forward chose them over Penrith.
Robinson also pointed out to Fifita’s impressive performance levels since he burst onto the scenes for the Brisbane Broncos in 2018 as another reason why he wanted to snap him up.“He obviously has an effect on the opposition in the way he runs and carries the ball and effects opposition defences, and his ability to score a try on his own and also in that system.
