The Australian Electoral Commission is looking to hire more than 100,000 workers in the lead up to next year’s federal election . It’s searching for people Australia-wide to apply as frontline polling staff, supervisors, mobile voting teams, remote area service teams and counting staff. Some roles are offering to pay staff $35 per hour, including paid training. The roles will be on a casual basis, some of them offering five-weeks of employment.
“You don’t need election experience to work for us, but you do need to be able to take an impartial and neutral approach to your work — that is not negotiable.” The AEC said applicants must be over the age of 18 years old and an Australian citizen. Workers have to be strict politically neutral, meaning they cannot express an opinion or take actions in relation to political parties, political candidates, and their policies.
