Nearly 600 hp from an electric Kia?
Despite being surrounded by the million-dollar exotics and high-wattage luxury debuts littering Monterey, California during Car Week—one of the bougiest stops on the automotive calendar—the 2023In its bid to capture EV sales, Kia has taken things up more than a few notches with this new high-performance variant of its electric EV6 crossover, easily the most interesting car in Kia's future stable of battery electric vehicles it says will number 14 by 2027.
Because the Kia EV6 GT draws its power from the same 77.4-kWh battery pack found in the GT-Line trim, its more powerful motors cut the driving range to 206 miles per charge from the 274 miles of range claimed for the GT-Line. While that is not an insignificant amount of range to lose, we feel safe assuming that customers who are seeking out the most powerful trim of the EV6 are less concerned with range and more interested in speed.
The Kia EV6 GT comes equipped with a total of seven driving modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, Snow, My Drive Mode, GT Drive mode, and Drift Mode. The latter three driving modes are exclusive to the GT trim and provide many opportunities for vigorous driving and messing about, particularly Drift mode, which effectively deactivates the front motor so that all the power comes from the rear wheels. Thus it should enable what would likely be eerily silent but also smokey sideways action.
