Chevy’s pony car returned from hiatus with a vengeance and restored the Camaro’s performance reputation.
. The top-dog Camaro ZL1 made its triumphant return to the world in 2012, while the ZL1 convertible came along a year later. The mighty Z/28 arrived in 2014 and stuck around for the final two years of the 5th gen's production.The lowest LT and LS trims came with the same base V-6 motor from 2010 to 2011. But unlike some of the sad V-6 engines GM threw into its cheaper cars in the past, the code-named LLT was a 3.6-liter, direct-injected engine that sported a high 11.
The Z/28 proved the old adage that there isn't a replacement for displacement. Chevy managed to cram a naturally aspirated The Z/28, however, had the ZL1 beat in terms of overall agility. The famed Nürburgring circuit in Germany has humbled many a hot rod, but sometimes the right kind of car can shine brilliantly. GM tested the 5th gen ZL1 at the 'Ring, where it clocked a time of 7:41.27 in 2012. When the Z/28 came along, GM also took it out to try its luck, and in 2014 the Z/28 managed 7:37.4.
