Michael Beale's men dropped into UEFA's second tier competition
The impact of missing out on the Champions League isn’t only counted in the cost of the lost millions for Rangers but it will also have a knock-on effect in terms of their Scottish Premiership fixture list.
Michael Beale’s men were thrashed by PSV Eindhoven in Holland as the Dutch reached the group stage of club football’s most lucrative competition. It means a place in UEFA’s second tier tournament for the Light Blues and, of course, Thursday night fixtures under the lights in Europe followed by Sunday domestic action in those weeks.
It will often mean playing catch-up with title rivals Celtic, who go straight into the Champions League group stage, and sometimes an inconvenience to fans who prefer their home games at the traditional 3pm KO on a Saturday. Europa League group stage takes place on Friday at 12 noon and the tournament kicks off proper in September. Here Record Sport looks at the diary dates for Rangers fans that will now change.
