Nick Hockley, the Cricket Australia chief executive, attempted to defend the words of his chair Richard Freudenstein when he stated that the current board may have reached a different conclusion around Tim Paine’s behaviour as opposed to his 2018 exoneration.
“What the board is saying is if presented with the same information currently, then maybe they would have made a different decision,” Hockley told SEN Radio. “But that was post-Tim stepping aside as captain, so it’s really the current board based on current circumstances would’ve made a different decision.
Hockley also said that the governing body would be open to reconsidering David Warner’s leadership ban - should they be approached on the issue by a team thinking of elevating him to a titled role. “It’s a good question,” he said. “I think it’s at this point hypothetical. I know there was some commentary about potentially if he were to take a leadership position for a BBL franchise.
