A wide range of single-use plastic items are now officially BANNED in NSW, after a new state government policy came into effect overnight. 9News Full list here:

Lightweight plastic bags have already been prohibited in the state since June, but now plastic straws, stirrers and cotton buds will join the list of banned items.

"This is because most items made from compostable plastic and bioplastic do not biodegrade unless they are specifically treated in a commercial composting facility," the government said.A range of items will remain in use including serving utensils like salad servers or tongs, coffee cups, plastic cups, plastic bowls with a spill-proof lid, polystyrene meat or produce trays and packaging.
