Star Wars: The Bad Batch actor hints at Rex's story in season 2. '[He's] sort of a bellwether character, one that heralds the moral decisions of how to live life that the Bad Batch, all of them, Crosshair included, are coming up against in season 2.'
Star Wars clone trooper voice actor, Dee Bradley Baker, recently discussed Captain Rex's role in Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 2. Set shortly after the Galactic Empire was formed, the popular Disney+ animated series follows Clone Force 99, also known as the Bad Batch, a squad of specialized clone troopers created with select genetic enhancements. Hunter leads Wrecker, Tech, Echo, and unmodified clone, Omega, as they attempt to evade the Empire and their former compatriot, Crosshair.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Originally introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Rex served alongside Anakin Skywalker and Jedi apprentice Ahsoka Tano, leading the 501st Legion of the Republic's Grand Army against the Separatists. As with nearly every clone, the Emperor's Order 66 forced Rex to betray the Jedi due to a behavioral bio-control chip inserted into his brain. However, he was rescued by Ahsoka who had his chip removed and is living on the lam.
Rex is always, he's a rock, isn't he? He is ever dependable, ever fair-minded, and even-keeled. He always is part of solving it, and he's persistent in how he goes about engaging with it. And so it's wonderful to see this guy who's seen the worst of it and has been through the worst and has survived it, and finds it within himself to make the heroic choice to dive back into this and to start to push back for the right reasons for the just cause.
It is likely that Rex is still on a mission to help other clones free themselves from the Empire's grasp and liberate their minds by removing their control chips. Although Rex became instrumental in the Rebellion, including his involvement with the team that took down the second Death Star in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, Star Wars: Rebels depicted the former clone captain living in the desert of a distant planet, far away from the Empire's reach.
In season 2, Rex may recruit Clone Force 99 to locate more clones to aid their escape from the Empire. With Commander Cody also teased in earlier promotional material, Rex may attempt to rendezvous with Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi's old clone partner and track down Wolfe, Gregor, and other clones that he feels can be saved. With Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 2 having premiered, audiences do not have to wait much longer to see Rex back in action.
