Have no regrets. You can’t change decisions you’ve already made, so back yourself. Or if you have to, fail fast. I’ve lived by that. I think the second part of that is to take opportunities when they come along.What was the moment in your career that changed you or that you learnt a lot from?
After the first 10 years of my working life, the opportunity came up in private equity. I had this realisation that opportunity was more important than security because I knew that going into a private equity business in a senior role and ultimately as managing director, if I did a good job, I was going to work myself out of a job. You’re much better to be in control of your own destiny.
That’s one that I consciously thought about at the time, and probably changed the way I approach the world and look at opportunity.I’m a Weet-Bix kid. I’ve been eating two Weet-Bix and milk since I was two years old, so that’s the ritual. And I have been known to take them with me on business trips. In addition to that, I’m a morning person, so most mornings I go for a walk or a run.You want people to feel like an owner, think like an innovator and act like an entrepreneur.
