Since its announcement in January 2023, Superman: Legacy has been the subject of many theories, with one villain-based one getting a major boost.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT One major theory surrounding the main villain of Superman: Legacy has just been given a huge boost in credibility. Since James Gunn announced Superman: Legacy as part of the DCU's first chapter - Gods and Monsters - the project has been subject to countless theories.
One of the theories regarding who will be Superman's first major DCU villain may just have received a major boost, thanks to the official Twitter account for Superman. The account posted a thread listing some of the main comics that inspired James Gunn's story for the upcoming DCU film. One of these comics is confirmed as "Superman: Brainiac", a 2008 Superman storyline written by Geoff Johns with illustrations from Gary Frank.
Why Brainiac Is The Right Choice For Superman Legacy's Villain If indeed this hint comes to fruition and Brainiac is revealed as the main villain of James Gunn's Superman: Legacy, it is undeniably the right choice. The main reason for this comes from the under-usage of Brainiac in live-action Superman stories. The only live-action portrayals of Brainiac have come in Smallville and Krypton.
Richard Donner's Superman and its sequel, Superman II, center on characters like Lex Luthor and General Zod. Similarly, 2006's Superman Returns once again had Lex Luthor as the film's villain. Man of Steel then utilized General Zod once more, with Henry Cavill's iteration of Superman not receiving another primary villain.
