Chace Crawford reveals Amazon forced TheBoys to use CGI to edit out his crotch bulge in season 1, recalling Eric Kripke stating, 'We get no notes from Amazon, but the first one we got was that can't f**king happen, we've got to take that out.' 😳

The Deep's comically large crotch bulge had to be edited out of scenes in The Boys season 1. Based on the comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, Amazon Prime Video's The Boys has received critical and commercial success for its satirical take on the superhero genre.

Where Homelander is a twisted Superman and Queen Maeve fits Wonder Woman's role, Chace Crawford's the Deep is a parody of Aquaman. After sexually assaulting Starlight in season 1, the Deep was kicked out of The Seven and has struggled to rehabilitate his image ever since. In addition to losing fish friends and being forced to consume Fresca, season 2 of the series saw him join a Scientology-esque organization known as the Church of the Collective.

“[Showrunner Eric] Kripke was like, ‘We get no notes from Amazon, but the first one we got was that can't f**king happen, we've got to take that out,’ he said. And we had to edit it out.” The in-universe calendar was a promotional one sent out to the press, with each month seeing Deep in various pretty boy poses designed to appeal to adoring fangirls. As seen above, its March 2020 spread sees Deep burst from the water with his prominent bulge and a pair of dolphins. When that photo hit the internet back in 2019, Crawford went viral as many fans either swooned or saluted the former star of Gossip Girl.

Given Deep's certain lack of big energy, it's perhaps best The Boys decided to alter his package. Season 3 of the series continues to mock Crawford's character. He remains a deplorable individual who's the source of a lot of comedy. Sometimes, audiences can't help but feel bad for him—which is a testament to the show's writers. For example, in episode 3, Deep is finally allowed back into the Seven.
