Yomi Adegoke writers in her monthly column for British Vogue of wanting to live life to the full this Christmas party season.
But it’s been back to back since summer, with no signs of slowing down. Google calendars have been heaving with dinners, parties, dinner parties – sometimes all on the same day. This year has been all about perfecting day to night transition outfits, looks that work for both a brunch with friends and a boozy book launch in the evening. Personally, I have burnt the candles at both ends, been burnt out, suffered from every conceivable type of burn going.
It’s not as if there is cause for celebration because things aren’t bleak, or because Covid is over. Neither of these things is true. This year has been one of the toughest yet. Rather, many of us are “living life” because of a renewed sense of precarity, a knowledge that things can change at any moment. It’s why my friend’s “cheeky lockdown” comment was met with nervous laughter – it almost felt too soon, like we’re not far enough out of the woods for that joke.

What is a standard therapy for a new disease? The case of the 'standard therapy' for COVID-19 - BMC Series blogSoon after the outbreak of COVID-19, the world research community performed a large number of clinical trials about the new disease. Many of them mentioned the use of at least a 'standard of care' for disease treatment. However, this is not accurate reporting as a standard of care, by definition, cannot be associated with a new disease. In a study published in BMC Medical Research Methodology last June, Prof Livia Puljak's research group from the Center for Evidence-Based Medicine and Health Care, at the Catholic University of Croatia, reported and quantified the misuse of the concept of standard of care in COVID-19 clinical trials and found that this affected almost one out of five trials, highlighting the need for greater attention to the terms used when reporting methods, for sake of methodological transparency and replicability.
