The church near the White House where Donald Trump held a photo op after police used tear gas to clear protesters from his path is now officially on Black Lives Matter Plaza.
Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser has renamed a street leading to the White House "Black Lives Matter Plaza" and had the slogan painted in huge yellow letters on it.
"There are people who are craving to be heard and to be seen and to have their humanity recognised. We had the opportunity to send that message loud and clear on a very important street in our city."Ms Bowser has clashed with Mr Trump on the protests, speaking out about the federal response and calling for the removal of out-of-state National Guard troops.
Ms Bowser called his remarks "gross" and said the reference to attack dogs conjured up the worst memories of the nation's fight against segregation. While he hasn't addressed the mural specifically, Mr Trump continued his Twitter attacks on Ms Bowser after the unveiling.
