New figures show that interest in folding phones is surging - and sales are beginning to follow.
Years after it was consigned to oblivion by Apple’s candy-bar shaped iPhone, “green shoots” are appearing from the folding phone’s grave, suggesting it is well on the way to a resurrection in Australia.
Couple the pricing sanity with recent and upcoming folding-friendly improvements in the Android operating system, and “green shoots are appearing that suggest folding phones are really getting traction”, Mr Fadaghi toldSamsung’s strong folding phone sales were all the more impressive because the second half of last year was otherwise a terrible time for premium phones, according to Telsyte figures. Both Samsung and Apple sales declined in that period, by 5.9 per cent and 6.
Samsung confirmed Telsyte’s folding phone figures, adding there was close to a 50:50 split between the Galaxy Flip and the Galaxy Fold form factors last year. The Fold started the second half of last year stronger, but the Flip gained momentum and caught up by the end of the year, Samsung officials said.
