The DCU's first superhero, as confirmed by James Gunn, confirms several active DC heroes, including a shock nod to The Flash.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Summary As James Gunn has confirmed several times, Blue Beetle introduces the first DCU superhero, dropping Xolo Maridueñs' Jaime Reyes into a world already populated by other DC superheroes.

Unlike all of the DCEU's movies, Blue Beetle also introduces Jaime Reyes as a legacy hero, who unwittingly inherits the mantle of Blue Beetle from two predecessors - first Dan Garrett and then the mysterious Ted Kord, whose disappearance drives the narrative until Blue Beetle's credits scene reveals he is still alive.

How Blue Beetle Confirms The Flash In The DCU Blue Beetle largely uses Uncle Rudy to explain the superhero hierarchy in Jaime Reyes' universe, while carefully avoiding any establishing details that might say which Batman or Superman are being referred to. As well as fleeting mentions to Superman's power of flight, Blue Beetle includes two Batman insults, as well as a potted history of Ted Kord's time as the second Blue Beetle and how he operated separately from the other heroes .

James Gunn's comments that Blue Beetle will be the DCU's first hero, and the announced future DCU movies for Superman and Batman combine to suggest that David Corenswet's Superman is the Man of Steel referenced, while The Brave & The Bold's new Batman is presumably the active Batman. But The Flash is a different matter.

Which Flash Will Appear In The DCU? Despite praise of his performance from DC creatives, it seems unlikely that Ezra Miller's Barry Allen will return to the DCU at this stage. Andy Muschietti's The Flash proved not to be the expected DCEU reset point, even with the heavy influence of Flashpoint and Barry Allen's chaotic multiverse meddling, which would have more logically explained Miller's potential return.
