Their daughter, Cindy Doan, works at the cafe with them, while their son, Linh Doan, owns his part of the restaurant chain in Albany."It was actually quite rough, the time when my parents migrated," he said.When Thanh went back to Vietnam, she met Kiet before falling pregnant with Linh."During the process at the time, I was left behind after only a month after she gave birth to me," Linh said.
The war ran for 30 years from 1945, killing hundreds of thousands of civilians, and ended when the communists gained control of South Vietnam."My grandfather went to the war. He's still alive now … he was a tank driver, and also he was the guy that clears the way for the tank," Linh said. Linh has learnt many lessons from his older family members and said he had been inspired to be a better man because of them.Linh's parents first started by opening a Perth-based lunch bar in 2010 but found more success in the regions where Vietnamese food was more of a niche."When we first came , there was one Chinese cuisine, Dome, and then Chicken Treat and a pub, that's it," his mother, Thanh, said.
