Ruby Princess crew wait for approval to fly home
More than 1000 crew members on the Ruby Princess are anxiously waiting for COVID-19 test results that will help determine if they can leave the ship and be repatriated to their home countries.
"There is a possibility for us to go home how. The end is near. They are looking at repatriation for some crew members on board," one said on Sunday. "Some people will still be needed for the safe running of the ship."Dean Summers the national Australian co-ordinator from the International Transport Workers Federation said he expected COVID-19 swab test results to be finalised soon.
"But the rest of the crew should be accommodated on shore or flown home. No one should be forced to go back on that ship." Up until Sunday, there had been 171 confirmed COVID-19 cases aboard and 12 crew members with the virus were being treated in NSW Health facilities.
