The Pilot who was allegedly attacked mid-flight to Israel named... The government is urging new Greens leader David Shoebridge to take a more constructive approach to working with Labor in parliament.
Senator Shoebridge won the leadership and fellow upper house member Steph Hodgins-May was selected as his deputy ], after an internal party vote during a policy meeting in Sydney. Senator Shoebridge has since pledged to tackle the growing popularity of One Nation, blaming Labor for creating a space for Pauline Hanson's resurgence, vowing to 'replace' Labor. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says the Greens are a protest party and is urging the party to reconsider its priorities.
"It was, somewhat concerning, I think, that at a time where we see a rise of a far right-wing party Senator Shoebridge took the opportunity to actually criticise Labor. You know, I'm a, a Labor loyalist. Uh, we are a party of government, not a party of protest, and that's the difference.
" Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Neyanyahu has named the pilot who was allegedly attacked on a flight to Israel as Smit Machchhar, an Indian national. The commercial flight, operated by flydubai, was diverted to Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia following a distress call to air-traffic control. Prime Minister Netanyahu says a co-pilot on the flight attempted to crash the plane after stabbing Mr Machchhar, who is now being treated in hospital.
He says despite being seriously injured, Mr Machchhar opened the cockpit door, enabling passengers and crew to enter. Ness Ziona was on the connecting flight from Dubai, and says he witnessed a "riot" at the front of the plane, as multiple people rushed to assist.
"A crew member along with the passangers gained control, took over and the third pilot managed to take control of the aircraft and take us south to Saudi. ' Flydubai says all 174 of the flight's passengers are safe, and it's suspended flights to and from Israel while an investigation into the incident continues. Three disability advocacy groups have published an open letter to the Queensland government, urging transparency and clarity on its Thriving Kids program plans.
The first phase of the government's new system of disability supports, designed to divert children aged under 9 diagnosed with some forms of autism away from the National Disability Insurance Scheme, has begun its roll out across all Australian states and territories except Queensland. In a joint letter, Queensland Independent Disability Advocacy Network, People with Disability Australia and Children and Young People with Disability Australia say Queenslanders with disability still do not have a clear picture of what will happen in the state.
The three groups are calling on the government to meet with them, and set out a credible pathway forward. US President Donald Trump says he's satisfied with how the United Kingdom has handled a security incident at a US-run air base in England. The UK says it has “strong indications” Iran played a part in the incident that saw five men arrested near the RAF Fairford military air base, which has been used by American bombers striking Iran.
The men were arrested on suspicion of explosives offenses and planning an act of terror, before being released on bail a day later, with police saying no explosives were found. President Trump says he's studying the incident closely, and considering how the United States will respond if Iran's alleged involvement in the incident is confirmed.
"Iran's got a lot of problems right now, you know. They have no money. Their currency is dead. Their economy is dead, their military is gone.
They have no military, they have no navy, they have no air force.

Australia has defeated South Africa in a rain affected third ODI, denying South Africa a clean sweep. The final day-nighter was eventually abandoned under the lights on Wednesday due to a downpour, but Australia still celebrates a satisfying 45-run victory.
Half-centuries from Alex Carey and captain Mitch Marsh, plus 48 from Ollie Peake, helped propel Australia to 9 for 322 after they'd been sent in. South Africa, which had already sealed the series with victories in Durban and Johannesburg, ended up on 145-4 in 28 overs. Sign up now for daily news from Australia and around the world.
