Look at some Glasgow tenements when you're next out and you may spot them

And quite often, locals and those coming to visit love taking a look at them and admiring them. However, while nothing may seem out of place at first, do a double take and you'll notice whole vertical rows of windows expertly bricked up.

While a 'window tax' was adopted in Scotland in the 18th century, this is not the real reason behind most of the blocked up windows, seen on many older buildings in both Glasgow and our capital, Edinburgh. The term "daylight robbery" is often linked to the window tax - even though the phrase was not recorded until the 20th Century.
