The injury that may force grand slam king Rafael Nadal to skip Wimbledon | BillieEder
Despite winning the first two grand slam events of 2022, Rafael Nadal’s chances of appearing at Wimbledon in three weeks’ time are up in the air after he revealed he needed pain-killing injections in his left foot before every match at Roland Garros.
Professor of Musculoskeletal, Sport and Exercise Medicine at the Australian National University, Kieran Fallon says that it is difficult to know exactly how bad Nadal’s diagnosis is without looking at his MRI scans and X-rays, but the major concern would be developing “pretty significant arthritis in his foot.”
Nadal admitted it was a gamble having anaesthetic injections in his foot because it made him more vulnerable to other injuries. A lack of feeling in his foot would mean a higher likelihood of him rolling his ankle.
