We all enjoy a story of enduring love, even those of us – no, particularly those of us – who did not achieve it ourselves.

, and I was crushed. Jackman seemed to be that rarest of beasts: a Hollywood star unaffected by fame, incontrovertibly nice, and completely in love with his wife. Furness seemed warm and authentic and funny. I was genuinely hoping they would last the distance.those of us – who did not achieve it ourselves. That doesn’t mean that love is only valid or valuable if it lasts forever, or that divorce is a terrible failure. The Jackmans were together for 27 years.

Is it fair to expect an Australian celebrity couple to embody such lofty hopes? Absolutely not. But did they welcome – even court – our investment in their love? Yes. I suspect they did. But the Jackmans – particularly Hugh – were extremely public about their relationship. I know the story of how they met on the set of, and of how they confessed their mutual crushes years later in a kitchen at a dinner party. Jackman spoke about his wife in interviews gushingly and often, and posted about her on the socials, under the hashtag #mydebs. It drew me in. Who doesn’t want to be adored like Hugh Jackman adored his wife? They were an aspirational, if improbable, couple.

I loved watching the Jackmans prove the old trope wrong for nearly 30 years. It made my bruised and cynical heart just a little more optimistic. I wanted them to prove it wrong forever. I wanted them to remain the exception to the rule.

His comments come as cardiovascular disease remains the biggest killer of Australians. “We do see high rates still of obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure – these things continue to drive this epidemic of heart disease,” Professor Kovavic told Sky News Australia. He said there are some heart diseases which women suffer from more often than men, including ‘spontaneous coronary artery dissection’ and ‘fibromuscular dysplasia’. “Women don’t always get those classic symptoms of heart attack – it can be pain in the belly, it can be shortness of breath, it can be just fatigue, sometimes pain in the jaw, pain in the arms. “We have to be really vigilant for all of these different symptoms of heart attack and doctors I think also need to do a better job, but I think we are improving at recognising these symptoms of heart attack in women.”
